July 1774 I have measured and laid out to Benj'm Mitchell, a tract of land one hundred and fifty acres situate on the branches

of Rocky Creek and in Cravens County: Bounded S. E. on the [?] Benj'm Mitchell's land, and on other sides by vacant land.

And hath such shape, form and marks as the above plat represents. Certified the 8th day of Augs't 1774.

A SQUARE 150 ACRES

150 acres x 43,560 sf/acre = 6,534,000 sf; the square root of 6,534,000 = 2 556.16901. Thus, if a 150-acre parcel of land is

square, it will be about 2,556 feet on each side. (2,556 ft) / (5,280 ft/mile) = 0.48 miles on each side or about a half-mile wide

and a half-mile long.
